Plane crash survivor rescued near Pillar Point

SAN FRANCISCO – An Air National Guard MH-60 rescue crew picked up a plane crash survivor 10 miles west of Pillar Point, Calif. today at approximately 3:30 p.m. and transferred him to emergency medical service personnell at Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco.

The Coast Guard received the report at 3:06 p.m. and immediately responded with several Coast Guard assets. A Coast Guard C-130 from Air Station Sacramento dropped a liferaft and a survival kit. One person was reported to be in the water. The Coast Guard also responded with an 87-foot patrol boat, and assests from Stations Golden Gate and San Francisco.

The Air National Guard from Moffett rescue crew deverted from a training mission with the Coast Guard Cutter Tern and arrived on scene at approximately 3:20 p.m.

The man’s condition is unknown and his plane was unrecoverable. The man was treated at the Air Station and then taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
