SITKA, Alaska - An HH-60J “Jayhawk” helicopter was launched from Air Station Sitka just before noon yesterday to medevac a 69- year-old man from a remote settlement northeast of Petersburg.

The helicopter crew encountered low visibility and weather conditions crossing Chatham Strait while enroute, but arrived safely at the site, and landed in a clearing to evacuate the patient.

Upon their return to Sitka, local Sitka EMS providers met the aircraft and affected a smooth transfer of the patient to the ambulance for further transport to hospital care.
