New TWIC Compliance Date Delays Coast Guard Enforcement

LOS ANGELES – With the extension of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) final compliance date to April 15, 2009, the U.S. Coast Guard will also delay enforcement of TWIC in southern California.

“We currently don’t have a set date for enforcement in the Ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, or Hueneme,” said Cmdr. Daniel Kane, Chief of Prevention for Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach. “When the time does come, the Coast Guard will publish a notice at least 90 days in advance,” said Kane.

The Department of Homeland Security has announced that the final compliance date for the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) will be April 15, 2009, which is a realignment of the previously set September 25, 2008 compliance date.

The Coast Guard urges all maritime transportation workers to continue to pre-enroll online at www.tsa.gov/twic. Pre-enrollment can accelerate the enrollment process and will reduce delays at enrollment centers and enrollment times for individual workers.

Enrollment centers are now open in San Pedro, Long Beach, and Oxnard, Calif. at the following locations:
