New Command Master Chief takes over in the 11th Coast Guard District

11th Coast Guard District NewsALAMEDA, Calif. – The Coast Guard’s 11th District gained a new top senior enlisted leader today when Master Chief Petty Officer Charles R. Bushey relieved Master Chief Petty Officer Terry J. Vanderwerf as the Command Master Chief.

Command Master Chiefs function as the primary senior enlisted advisors reporting directly to the District Commander and represent the interests of the Coast Guard workforce. As “gold badges” he or she serves as leaders and mentors while preserving the chain of command. They formulate and implement policies concerning morale, welfare, job satisfaction, discipline and training of Coast Guard members. By answering directly to the top senior officer, CMC’s keep their chain of command informed and aware of emergent, current and sensitive issues.

“Terry” Vanderwerf reported to the 11th District in June 2009. He departs for his new position as the Command Master Chief for the Coast Guard Deputy Commandant of Operations in Washington, D.C. “Rob” Bushey reports from Key West, Fla., having been the former Officer in Charge of the Cutter Sawfish.
