Morehead City railroad bridge to remain closed to maritime traffic

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The 110 railroad bascule bridge spanning the Intracoastal Waterway in Morehead City, N.C., will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. Friday until further notice.

Vessels seeking safe refuge should plan to transit Gallants Channel under the Grayden Paul Bridge, which will open upon request from 8 p.m. Friday until wind speeds reach 39 mph.

In the event of an emergency, vessels should contact the North Carolina Department of Transportation at 252-728-3279.

All mariners are advised to transit the area with caution. For additional information on the storm, visit the National Hurricane Center Web site at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/.  Boaters can monitor its progress on NOAA weather radio.
