Man Missing After Mayday Call In Oyster Bay, N.Y.

NEW YORK – A man is missing after he placed a mayday call to the Coast Guard around 5 p.m., today.

The man told the Coast Guard his vessel was sinking in the vicinity of Centre Island in Oyster Bay Harbor during the emergency radio transmission.

Coast Guard Station Eaton’s Neck, Nassau County Police Department and Suffolk County Police Department are on scene and performing search patterns.

“We will be conducting operations by air and sea through the night,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Dan Durso, a watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound. “If we do not find anything tonight, we will do a search at first light with more air assets and boats.”
