Local first responders locate body of missing 30-year-old man near Santa Monica Pier

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — Los Angeles County Lifeguards found the body of a man Saturday, who was reported missing near Santa Monica Pier Friday night.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., Los Angeles County Lifeguards and Santa Monica Harbor Patrol dive teams found the unresponsive man’s body under the Santa Monica pier in the water. After recovery, the body was hoisted to the pier and turned over to Santa Monica Police Department personnel.

The missing person was described to be an African-American male in his mid-30’s, wearing blue jeans and a red t-shirt.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received notification of a confirmed missing person near the Santa Monica Pier from the Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles-Long Beach, the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco’s Forward Operating Base Point Mugu all searched for the missing swimmer.
