Kodiak Coast Guard Searching for Overdue Fishing Boat

KODIAK, Alaska – The Coast Guard is searching the Shelikof Strait for a fishing boat reported 24 hours overdue this afternoon.

At 3 p.m., the fishing vessel Magnum and its crew were reported overdue to the Coast Guard by concerned family members. The 56-foot seiner was scheduled to travel from Wide Bay and arrive in Kodiak Harbor Thursday afternoon.

An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak were launched and are searching the bays and inlets of the Strait for any sign of the vessel.

An urgent marine information broadcast is asking mariners who have been through the search area for any information they may have about the Magnum.

An additional Jayhawk and Hercules are standing by to continue the search this evening.
