Icebreaking on the Kennebec River

 Coast Guard Cutter Shackle, homeported in South Portland, Maine, breaks ice in the heavy morning fog on the Kennebec River today. Breaking the ice is neccessary every Spring to prevent the river from flooding due to the runoff of melting mountain snow and rain showers.
