Humana Military Healthcare Services Receives URAC HIPAA Privacy Re-accreditation

LOUISVILLE, KY — Humana Military Healthcare Services (HMHS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Humana Inc., received their first re-accreditation for  Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy from URAC, a Washington, D.C. based healthcare accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the industry. HMHS first received accreditation for HIPAA Privacy in 2006.

“Humana Military understands the importance of protecting the health information of our beneficiaries and is committed to ensuring that privacy,” said Dave Baker, president and CEO of HMHS.  “We are devoted to being the most trusted name in military health solutions and it is an honor to be recognized by URAC in this category.”

In addition, HMHS has current URAC accreditation for Case Management, Disease Management – Asthma, Disease Management – Heart Failure, Health Network, Health Utilization Management, and Health Web Site.

HMHS, headquartered in Louisville, KY., has been a Department of Defense contractor for the administration of the TRICARE program since July 1, 1996.  In August 2003, HMHS was awarded the contract to provide health benefits support and services to approximately 2.8 million active duty and retired military and their eligible family members in the 10-state South Region. HMHS was also awarded the Department of Defense’s contract to provide health care services and support for active duty service members and their families located in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, in February 2004.
