Houston student recieves Coast Guard Meritorious Public Service Award

HOUSTON - Melanie Acker recieves the Coast Guard Meritorious Public Service Award from Capt. William Diehl, the commanding officer of Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston, at the West Gulf Maritime Association here Tuesday, July 10, 2007. Acker, 16, recieved the award for saving the lives of four college men in September 2006 while swimming in Village Creek, near Beaumont, Texas.
