Good Samaritans rescue 3 children and 6 adults near Port Aransas Jetties

America's Heartland Coast Guard NewsPORT ARANSAS, Texas — Nine people were rescued by good Samaritans after the people’s boat capsized Saturday evening off the Port Aransas Jetties.

Coast Guard watchstanders received a call from a mariner around 6:13 p.m., reporting a pleasure craft capsized and that nine people were in the water.

Coast Guard Station Port Aransas quickly launched a 45-foot Response Boat – Medium and crew to the boat’s reported location.

“We arrived on scene to find that the 18-foot pleasure craft had capsized and that two good Samaritan vessels had safely recovered the nine individuals that had been in the water,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Dominguez, the coxswain of the response boat.

The Coast Guard crew escorted the adults and children aboard the two good Samaritan boats to Station Port Aransas.

The Coast Guard is grateful to those in the maritime community that keep a sharp look out while underway and help fellow mariners by responding to those in distress. Doing so may make a critical difference during maritime emergencies and help save lives.

I was so impressed at how well captain Sid maintained such control of the boat in the worst part of the jetty. He stayed in perfect control if he and the group on the boat had not responded in the manner we did, I would say the out come may have been much different. We as fellow mariners need to keep a Sharp eye out for others in distress. That’s what makes the boating community so tight we care for all boaters great job to all. I’m so please everyone is safe and sound I’m sure we all would do it again without hesitation.
