Good Samaritan recovers diver near Manasquan, N.J.

MANASQUAN, N.J. – A Good Samaritan recovered a diver Wednesday four miles off the coast of Manasquan, N.J.

Deceased is Helen Kosthaz, 40, of Jamesburg, N.J.

The Coast Guard received a call at 11:18 a.m. from a crew member aboard the Blue Fathom reporting Good Samaritans aboard a boat recovered an unconscious diver from the surface of the water and are en route to Coast Guard Station Manasquan. The Good Samaritans reported they are performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the diver.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan met the Good Samaritans and transferred two Coast Guard personnel aboard the boat to continue CPR.

The Good Samaritans transported Kosthaz to Coast Guard Station Manasquan and transferred her to awaiting emergency medical personnel.

Kosthaz was transported to Ocean Medical Center in Brick, N.J., where she was pronounced deceased.

The accident is under investigation.
