Disabled fishing boat towed to safety

BOSTON – The New York-based fishing vessel Gabby G is safely moored in Point Judith, R.I., today after two Coast Guard units towed it back to port.

The Coast Guard Cutter Reliance, a 210-foot cutter from Kittery, Maine, towed the 92-foot vessel toward Point Judith, where they transferred the tow to a 47-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Point Judith around 2 p.m.

The Gabby G arrived in Point Judith around 4:30 p.m.

Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received a report from Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound about the disabled boat Monday. A crew member aboard the Gabby G made an initial call to his wife via satellite telephone, stating that the crew was having transmission problems.
