Coast Guard warns boaters of heavy weather

 SEATTLE – The Coast Guard warns boaters to exercise caution on coastal waters of the Pacific Northwest today due to strong winds and heavy weather.

A high surf advisory has been issued for the Pacific Northwest, which strongly encourages the boating public to pay close attention to local weather forecasts.

The heavy swells generated by this storm are expected to reach the Washington and Oregon coasts beginning later this morning. Winds are expected to reach 30 mph, with 45 mph gusts. Swells are expected to build to 15 to 20 feet this afternoon through tonight. The Coast Guard reminds boaters that it is dangerous to fish during these high surf conditions.

The National Weather Service – http://www.noaa.gov/ – has posted hazardous weather outlooks throughout the Northwest and boaters are advised to know local weather forecasts.
