Coast Guard Transports Injured Teen

BOSTON – The Coast Guard transported an 18-year-old girl from a sailboat after she fell and hit her head about a mile and a half from Cape Elizabeth Light, Maine.

The girl’s father called Station South Portland from the 34-foot Delala at 12:04 p.m., requesting assistance. A rescue boat crew launched at 12:20 p.m., and arrived on scene.

“When we got there, she was in stable condition but was pretty quiet,” said Petty Officer Second Class Dan Benoit, Station South Portland’s officer of the day.

The crew took her aboard at 12:30 p.m., and ten minutes later transferred her to awaiting EMS at the dock in Portland.
