Coast Guard to set safety zone on Ohio, Monongahela and Allegheny rivers

PITTSBURGH — The Coast Guard is scheduled to set a safety zone on the Ohio, Monongahela and Allegheny rivers, Saturday thru Sunday, in preparation for the 2010 Three Rivers Regatta.

Saturday’s safety zone will be from mile marker 0.4, near the Pumphouse on the Point to 0.5, near the 6th Street Bridge and will be strictly enforced from 1 until 3 p.m, 3:30 until 5 p.m. and 6 until 7 p.m. The regatta will break from 3 until 4 p.m., and 6:30 until 7 p.m. to allow transit through the area.

Additionally, a saftey zone is scheduled for Sunday in preparation for the regatta fireworks show. This safety zone will be from mile marker 0.5 on the Ohio River, extending to mile marker 0.5 on the Allegheny River and then to mile marker 0.5 on the Monongahela River. It will be strictly enforced from 9 until 10:30 p.m.

Mariners shall not enter into, depart from, or move within the safety zone unless specifically authorized by the captain of the port or a designated representative. All concerned mariners can contact the Coast Guard on the day of the event on VHF-FM Channel 16 for more information.
