Coast Guard to recognize Juneau Area Maritime Security Committee member

Coast Guard Sector Juneau CrestJUNEAU, Alaska – Coast Guard Sector Juneau is scheduled to recognize a key member of the Area Maritime Security Committee Wednesday for exemplary service in coordinating key exercises to ensure the readiness of governmental and industry counterparts since 2004.

Mr. Andrew Greene of Cruise Line Agency Alaska serves as the chairman of the committee overseeing the readiness of agency responses and updates to area-wide security plans to reflect best practices in preparing for and responding to security threats throughout Southeast Alaska.

“Andrew has been a tremendous help to our AMSC over the last several years,” said Capt. Melissa Bert, Coast Guard Sector Juneau commander. “His helpful and open assistance to all community, industry and government stakeholders has helped facilitate ready waterfront access to recreational and commercial users, while providing for an appropriate amount of safety and security for all.”

The Area Maritime Security Committee is made up of various federal, state and local government partners and industry representatives that collectively work to implement security standards and processes in the maritime realm. The committee was formally organized after 9/11, in an effort to provide a broad coalition of supporting interests that could help implement security standards with a common sense and cooperative approach.

These practices have included facilitating the solicitation and earning of government funded security grants and completion of numerous joint exercises. In the last two years, Southeast Alaska entities have garnered more than $2 million in such grants, which have gone to help provide for improved equipment that serves in various security processes ranging from surveillance vessels, fencing and camera monitoring equipment.
