Coast Guard to establish safety zone on Allegheny River

PITTSBURGH — The Coast Guard is scheduled to establish a safety zone on portions of the Allegheny River Saturday, July 18, 2009, from 8:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m.

In support of the Pittsburgh Pirates fireworks display, the captain of the port for Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley will restrict navigation spanning the entire width of the river. Persons and vessels will not be allowed to enter, depart or move within the safety zone unless specifically authorized by the captain of the port or a designated representative.

Restrictions are as follows: mile marker 0.4 to mile marker 0.6.

After normal working hours, contact the Marine Safety Unit in Pittsburgh command duty officer at (412) 670-4288.

All concerned vessel operators can contact the Coast Guard on the day of the event on VHF-FM Channel 16.
