Coast Guard to enforce Cooper River security zone during upcoming Bridge Run

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard is establishing a security zone on the waters of the Cooper River and Town Creek Reaches in Charleston Harbor during the Cooper River Bridge Run, Saturday April 5, 2014.

The security zone will take effect from 7:30 a.m., to 9:30 a.m., and is necessary for the safety of runners and the general public.

The security zone encompasses an area 200 yards north of the Ravenel Bridge, including Town Creek, and extends south to a line between the Charleston Maritime Center and the USS Yorktown.

People and vessels will be prohibited from entering, transiting through, anchoring in, or remaining within the security zone unless authorized by the Coast Guard Captain of the Port of Charleston or his designated on-scene representative. The security zone will be enforced by federal, state and local agencies.
