Coast Guard to continue searching through night for missing woman

BOSTON — Coast Guard crews will continue to search throughout the night for the missing 22-year old woman who was swept off a sandbar at the mouth of the Merrimack River on Tuesday.

A 47-foot boat crew and 25-foot boat crew from Coast Guard Station Merrimack River will continue to search for Marina Kohn from Lynn, Mass.

Coast Guard aircrews as well as other local agencies plan to rejoin the search Wednesday morning.

The Coast Guard, Good Samaritans and state and local agencies began searching for Kohn after receiving a report that she and seven other people were swept off a sandbar by the current. The seven recovered people, who are friends of Kohn, were recovered by the Newburyport police, Newburyport harbormaster, and Good Samaritans and taken to the Captain Lady Dock near the town pier in Plum Island where they were met by EMS.

The sandbar is accessible during low tide. When the high tide comes in there is a strong current.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The first story stated Kohn was 21-years old. This information is inaccurate. Kohn is 22-years old.
