Coast Guard to conduct helicopter rescue training near Falmouth Heights Beach

1st Coast Guard District NewsBOSTON — Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod crewmembers will conduct extensive helicopter rescue training approximately one-quarter mile off the coast of Falmouth, Mass., near Falmouth Heights Beach, Tuesday, at 8:45 a.m.

The training exercise is focused as a mass-casualty event in which vessels have numerous people aboard.

The training will consist of two helicopters working to complete hoisting evolutions of people in the water. Each helicopter will have four rescue swimmers to complete this evolution. Some of these rescue swimmers will simulate distressed individuals in the water. The two helicopters will utilize the remaining rescue swimmers aboard the helicopter to recover the swimmers in the water.

The training is expected to be complete at 10:45 a.m., at which time the helicopters will depart and the rescue swimmers will swim to shore.
