Coast Guard suspends search for missing teenagers

NEW ORLEANS – After an expansive three-day search of Lake Pontchartrain and the surrounding area, the Coast Guard has suspended its search today, for Otis Thornton, 18, and George McClain, 16, who went missing in the area of Lincoln Beach Sunday night in New Orleans East.

Multiple rescue crews from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and small-boat Station New Orleans searched for more than 40 hours while conducting more than 22 search patterns on the lake.

Assisting the Coast Guard in the search was the New Orleans Levee Police and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The Coast Guard plans to continue to broadcast Urgent Marine Information Broadcasts (UMIBs) asking local boaters to be on the lookout for the young men and to report it to local law enforcement agencies or the Coast Guard.
