Coast Guard suspends search for missing swimmer near Huntington Beach Pier

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing swimmer in the vicinity of the Huntington Beach Pier.

The Coast Guard and partner agencies searched for approximately 11 hours covering nearly 137 square nautical miles.

The missing swimmer was identified as Jessy Cook. She is described as an 18-year old female, 5′ 11″, 147 lbs., brown hair and wearing a light-colored top.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received notification of a possible missing swimmer near the Huntington Beach Pier from Orange County Sheriffs Harbor Patrol.

Coast Guard crews aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles-Long Beach, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco’s Forward Operating Base Point Mugu, a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station San Diego, and the Coast Guard Cutter Narwhal participated in the search alongside crews from Huntington Beach Police, Huntington Beach Lifeguards and Orange County Sheriff.
