Coast Guard suspends search for missing boaters in Nanticoke River

BALTIMORE- The Coast Guard suspended its search at 7:57 p.m. Sunday for two missing boaters in the Nanticoke River.

The Coast Guard, along with local agencies, searched approximately 127 square miles for 24 hours.

Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders received the initial call from Wicomico County Fire and Rescue reporting the incident.

A rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Crisfield, Md., and a rescue aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., responded along with Maryland State Trooper four and other local rescue units Saturday night.

The boatcrew from Station Crisfield searched throughout the night and the aircrew from Air Station Atlantic City conducted a first light search on Sunday. Both rescue crews along with local agencies continued searching throughout the day.

“We worked the search extremely hard along with our local partners,” said Captain Brian Kelley, the commanding officer of Sector Baltimore. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the missing men,” said Kelley.

The search is suspended pending any further developments.
