Coast Guard suspends search for boater in distress

BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard suspended its search today for a missing boater in the Patapsco River near Bodkin Creek.

Rescue crews from Coast Guard Station Curtis Bay, Md., and Air Station Atlantic City N.J., searched 62 miles of inland waters for more than 13 hours for the man whose boat was taking on water Thursday night.

Watch standers from Coast Guard Sector Baltimore received a call at 7:40 p.m. Thursday from the operator of a 16-foot vessel requesting assistance from Tow Boat U.S. Sector Baltimore lost communications with the boater and launched rescue crews who searched throughout the night and the morning.

“The Coast Guard encourages boaters to file a float plan with family or friends, telling them where they are going, when they will be back and to notify them of any changes to the plan,” said Petty Officer 1st Class James Morrison of Coast Guard Sector Baltimore.
