Coast Guard suspends search for a man over board

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard suspended the search for a person in the water approximately 55 nautical miles south east of Fort Morgan, Alabama, Monday.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile suspended the search after searching approximately 2,830 square nautical miles for approximately 50 hours.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report at 6:52 a.m., Saturday, from the pleasure craft Mocean Granted, a 41-foot Hattaras, that 40-year-old Matthew Willis was overboard. The man was last seen at approximately 2 a.m., Saturday.

Involved in the search was:

  • Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry air crews
  • Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crews
  • Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island 45-Foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew
  • Coast Guard Cutter Razorbill
  • Coast Guard Cutter Stingray
