Coast Guard suspends search for 1 near Sandy Point, Md.

Coast Guard District 5 NewsBALTIMORE — The Coast Guard suspended its search at 2:50 p.m. Sunday for a 25-year-old man after the sailboat he was aboard capsized off the coast of Sandy Point, Md., Saturday.

A woman contacted Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders on VHF-FM channel 16 at approximately 2:30 p.m. reporting a boat capsized off of Sandy Point.

A crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat – Medium from Coast Guard Station Annapolis, Md., a crew aboard an RB-M from Coast Guard Station Curtis Bay, Md., a crew aboard a 25-foot Response Boat – Small from station Annapolis, two Anne Arundel County Fire Department boatcrews, Maryland Natural Resources Police boatcrews, crews aboard two Maryland State Police helicopters, a crew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., crews aboard two MH-65 Dolphin helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., and a Queen Anne’s County boatcrew responded to search for the man.

The Coast Guard searched a total of 62 square miles in approximately 24 hours for the man.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by MNRP with assistance from the Coast Guard.
