Coast Guard suspends search, body of missing fisherman located

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard suspended its search today for Jerry Berwick, 64 of Philadelphia, who went missing when the boat he was on capsized about five miles off the coast of Atlantic City.

A TowBoat U.S. salvage team re-righted the boat at about 1 p.m. and discovered the body inside the boat’s cabin.

The 25-foot pleasure craft is currently being towed to Somers Point, N.J.

Coast Guard crew’s searched a total of 1,145.23 overlapping square miles.

The search consisted of the following crews:

1. A C-130 Hercules airplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C.
2. An HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City
3. A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light, N.J.
4. A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Atlantic City
5. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Finback, home-ported in Cape May, N.J.
6. A boat crew from Sea Tow Services International
7. A boat crew from TowBoat U.S.
8. A boat crew from the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The 25-foot pleasure craft Knucklehead capsized five miles off the coast of Atlantic City with three people aboard while Coast Guard crews search for a missing fisherman from the boat Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007. The 25-foot pleasure craft Knucklehead capsized five miles off the coast of Atlantic City with three people aboard. All three fisherman on board died in the accident.
