Coast Guard Station Sand Key rescues two teenagers from capsized boat

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Coast Guard rescued two teenagers after their sailboat capsized in Saint Joseph Sound Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Sand Key in Clearwater were notified at approximately 2:50 p.m. via 911 dispatch that two teenage boys were in the water after their 19-foot sailboat capsized.

A Coast Guard Station Sand Key 25-foot rescue boat crew, already underway, was immediately diverted to the scene, where they rescued both teenagers and safely transported them to a local boat ramp.

There were no injuries reported.

A commercial salvage company will be recovering the sailboat.
