CLEVELAND — The crew of U.S. Coast Guard Station Lorain, Ohio, is scheduled to hold an open house Friday to wrap up National Safe Boating Week.

The open house is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the station, 110 Alabama Avenue, Lorain, OH 44052.

The open house will include tours of the Coast Guard station, as well as the station’s boats and those of the Northern Border Initiative and Lorain Marine Patrol. The event may include boat rides if weather permits, equipment displays and free safety equipment inspections. Boating safety pamphlets and brochures will be available for all attendees. Kids will be able to interact with Coastie the Safety Boat.

If boaters wish to have any safety equipment inspected, they may bring it with them. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary personnel will also assist in demonstrating how to properly use equipment.

From May 21 – 27, 2011, the Coast Guard is celebrating National Safe Boating Week.

The goal of National Safe Boating Week is to heighten awareness among recreational boaters of the importance of boating responsibly and wearing a life jacket at all times. This includes informing boaters they have options when it comes to today’s modern life jackets. Some options include new inflatable versions that offer a complete range of movement.

For further information about the open house, please contact the Coast Guard Station Lorain officer of the day by calling 440-288-1207.
