Coast Guard Station Fort Macon crew to hold change-of-command ceremony

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The crew of Coast Guard Station Fort Macon is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony on the station’s grounds in Fort Macon Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Jeremy McConnell will assume command of the station from Chief Warrant Officer Thaddeus Bouchard as the officer-in-charge.

Coast Guard Station Fort Macon crew missions include: search and rescue, recreational boating safety, law enforcement and marine environmental protection. The station is manned by 30 active duty members and 12 reserve members.

Capt. Anthony Popiel, the commander of Coast Guard Sector North Carolina, will preside over the ceremony.

The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition and formal custom that follows military protocol, designed to strengthen the respect for the continuity of command.
