Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads to hold change of command

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Capt. Christopher S. Keane will assume command of Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads during a change-of-command ceremony scheduled Friday at Coast Guard Base Portsmouth at 10 a.m.

Capt. Keane will relieve Capt. John K. Little, who has served as the sector’s commander since 2012.

As commander of Sector Hampton Roads, Capt. Keane and his team will oversee and conduct operations throughout the port and navigable waterways of the Atlantic Coast from the Maryland/Virginia border to the Virginia/North Carolina border, including the commercial ports of Hampton Roads and Richmond.

Field commands and personnel assigned to Sector Hampton Roads are responsible for search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, foreign and domestic vessel inspections, marine casualty investigations, port safety and security, homeland defense and military readiness, waterways management, waterfront facility inspections, marine environmental protection, and fishing, towing, charter and attraction vessel exams.

Keane will assume command after spending the past two years as the deputy sector commander at Sector Hampton Roads.

Rear Adm. Stephen P. Metruck, the 5th District commander, will preside over the ceremony.
