BOSTON — Coast Guard Station Block Island closed Tuesday for the 2017 summer season. It will re-open prior to the 2018 Memorial Day weekend.

The unit closes each year due to reduced boating traffic during the fall and winter. Coast Guard Station Point Judith, its parent command, will assume duty for all responses in the area.

Mariners within Block Island Sound are reminded to report all marine emergencies to Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England using VHF channel 16 or by calling 508-457-3211.
