Coast Guard searching for possible person in water near Oceanside

SAN DIEGO – The Coast Guard is currently searching for a possible person in the water near St. Malo Beach in Carlsbad, Calif., after being notified of an unmanned, anchored boat that was found Sunday afternoon.

The Joint Harbor Operations Center (JHOC) received a call from the Oceanside Harbor Police at 2:43p.m., stating they had boarded a 35-foot sailboat, the Audacity, and found no one on board, but found a ladder in the water and other personal affects on the boat.

Coast Guard Sector San Diego launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to search the area for anyone who might be associated with the sailboat.

The Coast Guard would also like to remind boaters to please file a float plan before getting underway. Please inform a family member or a friend that you are going out on the water, where you are going and when you expect to return.

If anyone has any information about the boat, or its owner, they are asked to call the Coast Guard at 619.278.7031.
