Coast Guard searching for person in water off Pensacola

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for a person in the water approximately 157 nautical miles off of Pensacola, Florida, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report from the cruise ship Carnival Fantasy at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday of a man with dark hair, wearing a red shirt, and seen facedown in the water.

A passenger aboard the cruise ship initially spotted the man and alerted crewmembers. The cruise ship conducted searches in the area for approximately two hours.

An HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft crew was diverted at 11:42 a.m. Thursday to assist in the search.
