KODIAK, Alaska — An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak is searching for two hunters in a 21-foot skiff who were reported overdue from a hunting trip to Kalgin Island near Kenai Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Anchorage were contacted Thursday morning by a family member of the missing hunters who reported they had not returned to Kenai from the trip. The hunters departed Kenai Tuesday and were due back Wednesday night.

The watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of the Jayhawk crew to search the last known location of the hunters.

“Our primary concern is locating the missing individuals,” said Steve Garcia, a search and rescue controller with the Sector Anchorage command center. “We request that anyone with information that may assist searchers to locate these hunters contact the Sector Anchorage command center at 907-271-6769.”

Weather conditions in the area are reportedly 12 to 23 mph winds with 2- to 4-foot seas, an overcast sky and visibility of about 3 miles.
