Coast Guard searching for missing swimmer near Simons Island

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Coast Guard is searching for a missing swimmer near Simons Island, Ga., Sunday.

Missing is a 30-year-old male Army Staff Sgt. from Fort Stewart, Ga.

Coast Guard Station Brunswick, Ga., watchstanders received notification of the missing swimmer at approximately 5:20 p.m., Sunday from his wife stating that he got caught up in a rip current in the vicinity of Simons Island and had been swept out to sea.

Coast Guard Station Brunswick,Ga., launched a boat rescue crew and Coast Guard Air Station Savannah launched an MH-65 Dolphin air rescue crew to the scene at approximately 5:28 p.m.

Also involved in the search is Brunswick County Sherriff’s Office and Ga., Department of Natural Resources.
