Coast Guard searching for missing fisherman near Coos Bay, Ore.

Coast Guard District 13 NewsCOOS BAY, Ore. — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing fisherman near Coos Bay, Monday.

The man went missing after the fishing vessel Randi overturned, sending him and two other men into the water.

Coast Guard Group North Bend, Ore., recieved a report of an overturned vessel approximately three miles north west of the Coos Bay jetty at 1:15 p.m. A Good Samaritan vessel managed to rescue two men from the water, but the third man did not surface.

Two 47-foot motor lifeboat crews and a 25-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Coos Bay were launched to the scene along with two HH-65 helicopter crews from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend, Ore. One helicopter crew medevaced one of the rescued men to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay. The other man was uninjured and taken safely to Station Coos Bay by the 25-foot response boat crew.

The two 47-foot motor lifeboat crews and the remaining HH-65 helicopter crew continue to search the waters in the vicinity of the jetty.

Weather on scene consists of 6-7-foot seas, with 17-knot winds. The water temperature is 51 degrees.
