Coast Guard searching for missing diver near Santa Cruz Island

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard continues searching Tuesday for a 64 year-old male diver reported missing Monday afternoon north of Santa Cruz Island.

Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach was notified at approximately 1 p.m. Monday that a diver did not resurface after diving from the fishing vessel Josefina Dos off the coast of Santa Cruz Island. Rescue helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, a rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor, and Coast Guard Cutter Blackfin were immediately dispatched to search for the diver. A helicopter and divers from Ventura County Sherriff’s Department and Los Angeles County divers also responded to the scene.

Currently, a Coast Guard rescue helicopter and Coast Guard Cutter Halibut are continuing to search the area.
