Coast Guard searching for missing crewmember from cruise ship Explorer of the Seas

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard rescue crews are searching for a man Thursday who went overboard off the cruise ship Explorer of the Seas Wednesday night, approximately 120 miles north of Isabela, Puerto Rico.

The man overboard is reportedly a 26-year-old crewmember aboard the Explorer of the Seas. His name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a call at approximately 9:15 p.m. Wednesday from the cruise ship Explorer of the Seas reporting the incident.

Coast Guard rescue crews are searching since Wednesday night for the man overboard. Involved in the search efforts are an Air Station Miami HU-25 Falcon jet crew, an Air Station Clearwater, Fla., C-130 aircrew, and the Coast Guard Cutters Matinicus and Chincoteague.

Coast Guard Cutters Matinicus and Chincoteague are 110-foot patrol boats homeported in San Juan.
