Coast Guard searching for missing boater near Key Largo

Key Largo, Fla. – Coast Guard personnel are searching for a missing boater in the vicinity of Mosquito Bank, Fla., Monday.

The missing boater, Michael J. Smith of Georgia, rented a 26-foot Angler from Pontunes Boat Rental.

Coast Guard personnel were notified at approximately 6:25 p.m. Sunday that Smith, a 54-year-old male, was overdue. A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew, a Coast Guard Station Islamorada 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement crew, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Key Largo Volunteer Fire Rescue personnel have been, and are continuing to search in the vicinity of Mosquito Bank.
