Coast Guard Searching for Car in Industrial Canal

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and the New Orleans Police Department vessels are responding to a report of a car falling off of the Claiborne Avenue Bridge in New Orleans.

At approximately 2 a.m. this morning, a watchstander at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report that a minivan carrying multiple people drove over the open draw of the Claiborne Avenue Bridge and landed in the Industrial Canal.

A Coast Guard 25-foot response boat responded and searched for people in the water until 8:30 a.m. this morning, when a Coast Guard 41-foot utility boat arrived at the scene to continue the search. A New Orleans Police Department vessel is assisting in the search.
