Coast Guard searching for boy off Surfers Beach, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico

7th Coast Guard District NewsSAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard rescue crews are searching Friday for a missing boy in waters off Surfers Beach in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

Missing is Luis Adolfo Velázquez, 17, who reportedly was last seen struggling to escape the currents with three of his friends. Velaquez’s friends were able to safely reach shore and lost sight of Veláquez, while he was still in the water. Velázquez was wearing black shorts at the time he went missing.

Coast Guard Watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a call from a Puerto Rico Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action agent at 8:20 a.m Friday, who relayed the report of the incident from the swimmer’s friends.

Rescue crews aboard Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopters from Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla, are searching alongside the Coast Guard Cutter Key Largo and local emergency responders.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the missing swimmer are requested to contact the Coast Guard Sector San Juan Command Center at 787-289-2041.
