Coast Guard searches for possible surfer in distress

HONOLULU – The Coast Guard is trying to locate the owner of a surfboard found approximately 2.5 miles southwest of Diamond Head, Thursday.

No one has been reported to be in distress. The surfboard was found with a broken leash by the crew of a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Honolulu, who were conducting training in the area.

The surfboard is green and burgundy, nine feet, and six inches, with the words ‘Island Classic’ on it.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Galveston Island, a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Honolulu, and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point, are assisting with the search.
