Coast Guard searches for missing fishermen

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard is searching for two missing fishermen about 40 miles south of Freeport, Texas, today in the area locally known as the 22 1/2 Fathom Lump.

The two adult men were last seen in a 23-foot recreational boat. One of the men’s brother contacted a Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston watchstander at 9 p.m., stating the pair had planned on returning about 5 p.m. and are seldom late.

Coast Guard Station Freeport dispatched a rescue boat and Coast Guard Air Station Houston launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter to search for the men.

The last contact with the fishermen was a phone call to a family member at 8:30 a.m. this morning, stating they had experienced engine trouble but were able to make repairs.
