Coast Guard searches for man in water near Asilomar State Beach

SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard continues search for a missing man in the water near Asilomar State Beach Thursday.

Monterey County Communications dispatch notified Coast Guard Sector San Francisco Command Center watchstanders at approximately 5:16 p.m. Wednesday, relaying a report from good Samaritans of a man in the water wearing a white shirt with orange accents waving his arms and gesturing for help.

Watchstanders dispatched crews aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco, a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Monterey, and the Coastal Patrol Boat Coast Guard Cutter Tern from San Francisco Bay.

Other agencies assisting in the search include Pacific Grove Police Department, Monterey Fire Department and Monterey Police Department.

Coast Guard crews searched throughout the night with plans to continue search efforts Thursday morning.
