Coast Guard responds to vessel taking on water near Astoria

SEATTLE - The Coast Guard responded to a fishing vessel taking on water 40 miles west of Astoria, Ore., today.

The Coast Guard was notified of the incident at approximately 8:50 a.m. when it was reported the fishing vessel Mary L was taking on water with one person aboard. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Steadfast and an HH-60 helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria were dispatched to the scene where a rescue swimmer and a pump were lowered to the vessel.

The Mary L was successfully dewatered and is being towed back into port by the Steadfast.
