Coast Guard responds to vessel collision

NEW YORK – A Coast Guard Marine Inspector and an Investigating Officer are responding to a report of a vessel collision resulting in injuries near the Ambrose Pilot Station off of Sandy Hook, N.J., today.

Coast Guard Sector New York command center received the notification around 2 p.m. of a collision involving a New York Pilot boatcrew and a 984-foot cargo container ship.

Four crewmen from the pilot boat sustained injuries; three were minor, and one crewman was taken to Sea View Hospital on Staten Island, N.Y for his injuries.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
