Coast Guard responds to possible entagled humpback whale near Miami Beach

MIAMI — The Coast Guard is responding to a possible entagled humpback whale Friday afternoon about a mile off of Government Cut near Miami Beach, Fla.

Boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Miami Beach, along with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel, are assessing the situation.

The Coast Guard received the initial notification around 2 p.m. from a good Samaritan.

Earlier reports that the whale was run over are inaccurate.

Earlier reports of a whale in distress near Boynton Beach, Fla., were false alarms.
